One Night Love Affair (Preview)

Yes, I know it's quite shocking that there is a post on this blog.  But don't get too excited, because it's just self-promotion.  Once I find myself in a place when I'm ready to download torrents of music and actually go through it, this blog will be revived.  Until then, here's a sample from our new EP:

One Night Love Affair (Preview) by Bastille

Obscure Video Game Character #7

I'm going to assume that nobody is going to get #6, so the answer was Detective Carla Valenti from the game Indigo Prophecy.  It was a great idea for a game, but poorly executed.  Anyways, bad ass #7 is right up thur, and I'm offering +500 Bastille Love and Admiration Points for the first to the punch.

-M

I Look To You (ft Kimbra) - Miami Horror (GOLDEN BANANA)
This is exactly what we need to bring back French House.  Its just like the best disco, pop, whatever that you've ever heard.  The bassline is killer.

Baby I'm Yours feat. IRFANE - Breakbot (Golden Banana)
Yup, another one.  I figured I had to include the other great jam of recent.  Which of these is better?

Baby I'm Yours (Aeroplane Remix) - Breakbot
Good remix.

Smack My Bitch Up (Sub Focus Remix) - The Prodigy (Silver Banana)
And now for something completely different.  DnB ftw.

Prince (Bassnectar Remix) - Deftones
Or maybe Dubstep ftw?

U Don't Like Me (South Rakkas Crew Remix) - Diplo & Lil Jon
Not sure if you'd call this Dubstep, but its the right tempo and would fit into a Dubstep set.

Love You Better (Bass Kleph Remix) - Crazy White Boy
This is AwB.  There's gotta be something techy in every post.  So why not this awesome Tech House jam.

No Soul (Bodybangers Remix) - Andrew Spencer & Daniel Slam
And some Dutch House to finish off.

New Mason

It's a great day when some new Mason track gets dropped in your inbox.  I'm a huge fan of this duo, and we've posted up their stuff BEFORE.

Oh yeah, and my computer is half working (my battery is fried AND my computer thinks I need to replace every battery I put in, even new ones, but it runs if I'm plugged in).

-M

The Badger - Mason
Funkier than anything I've heard from these guys, complete with cool samples and even some slap bass.

Syncrom - Mason
Big Italo influence in this one.

Syncrom (Refurb) - Mason
More of a fun bonus track than something for DJ sets, sounds super 80s and movie soundtrackish (wailing distorted guitars do that)

Electro Batch #5

Electro dancefloor, ya?

-M

Puppies (Blende Remix) - Dolby Anol
Really sick Electro track, crazy sounds and whatnot.

Threnody (Capt and Cooked Edit) - SebastiAn
The most controversial track of 2010, and yes we can most certainly declare that this early, was remixed and definitely improved.

токамак - Nightbreaker
Super heavy Electro. Our buddy in London by the name of Pedro will be super happy about this one.

Hooligans (Noisia Remix) - Don Diablo & Example
Reminiscent of that Mstrkrft sound we all used to love, but a bit heavier.

The Way We Like It (Tommie Sunshine Edit) - Tim Healey vs. Felguk
This is pretty crazy, and yet another incredibly heavy track, the bass is huge.

Bubble Bath - The Swiss
This is basically a straight up Disco track. Jumpman will be all over this. I normally don't really go for all this sort of thing, but this track just really got to me.

Nerve (Analyzer Remix) - Boys Noize
This song's all about the sound they made. They're just showing it off, pretty much. It's a cool sound.

Maps (Elite Force Re-Fix) - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Square waves FTW

White Feather (Bang Gang Black Leather Remix) - Wolfmother
Pretty sick, blahdy blah.

Eyes on Crysteena (CJ Milli Mix) - Mille & Blue Foundation
The most poppy track of the bunch.

House Batch #3

My final batch, just had to put up a few more House tracks. Definitely some gems in this one. Also, J's computer is officially dead, poor dude. Looks like I'll be carrying the weight of this blog by myself again, it was definitely nice having someone else post for a few days. It's also gonna put a big damper on our production speed. Hope he can get a new one soon...

-M

Youth Speed Trouble Cigarettes (K.S 'Higher State of Consciousnes of Da Funk' Remix) - Cassius
Wow, this is amazing. Great old school vibe in this one. High acid synth with the Daft Punk sample as the bass.

Dionysus (Original Mix) - Ashley Wallbridge
Massive Progressive track. I know I say this about a lot of tracks, but I hear a lot of Deadmau5 in this one. It's that 3 against 4 thing.

Its Only Love (Original Mix) - Figure and Sleepy T
Really awesome French/Disco House track from one of the contributors to the blog Penned Madness. I'm a big fan of both the track and the blog.

Beautiful U R (Inpetto Remix) - Deborah Cox
Tech/Prog with a bass that I imagine would be so epic on giant speakers.

Stranger In Moscow (Jerome Isma-Ae Bootleg) - Michael Jackson
More Progressive, I think I'm going through a Prog phase.

Spaghetti Circus - Still Going
That NuDisco sound coming from DFA Records. I'm usually not a huge fan, but I really like this one.

Again & Again feat. Sam Obernik (Jean Claude Ades Remix) - LouLou Players, Sharam Jey
Tech House, J will probably like this one a lot.

Chokolatt - 1977
French/Filter House. Probably my favorite House genre of them all.

Korma (Original Mix) - Andycap
Techy techy techy techy.

Blackberry Hype - Maxwell D & Lil Silva
Here's some UK Funky (first time we've posted any if I'm correct), this is definitely perfect for your hipster crowd. We all love Irony. The organ-like bass is awesome.

Afghanistan - Komytea
This one's weird, which is why I'm putting it at the bottom. If I had to relate it to another producer, I'd say Pryda, so if you like Pryda (as you all should) be sure to grab this one. Electro Tech.

Sample Quiz

So this song randomly came on while I was listening to something else, and I realized where one of my favorite electro song got its roots. Of course you could have found out where the electro song got its samples just by looking online or what not. Maybe I'm late to the game and everybody knows the answer to this quiz but whatever.

It was obvious to me within a few seconds of this song coming on, and the winner gets 10 Bastille Love and Admiration Pts. (notice the first letters have been capitalized so you know it's important love and admiration; and M you can't go for it). Write your answers in the comments. I would recommend for those who get to this late to not look at the comments but to first try and get it themselves.

-J

Which electro song and producer sampled quite a few things from this song:

Let's Start the Dance by Bohannon

and for good measure I'll throw in this song too though it has nothing to do with the quiz, maybe someone will hear a sample in it or something:

Foot Stompin' Music by Bohannon

P.S. I've made a commitment to doing more posts, and I genuinely expect to hold to that commitment. However, I'm pretty sure my computer is on the verge of death (seeing as it almost didn't turn on this afternoon). So if my computer dies, and i'm pretty sure it would last another 2 weeks, it's probably going to be a little while until I get a new one, so you can expect at most 2-3 posts until I get that new one.

French House Arrest Episode IV: Backtrack

I do still insist that 1997 is the biggest year for French House, but I realized that I left out some important/awesome developments that occurred in 1996.

-M

Now I can't really speak for its significance in terms of the evolution of the genre, but this did predate '97 and is just awesome. The true winner is the remix from DJ Gregory (my favorite track in this post), but the I:Cube remix is also amazing. I:Cube is another important DJ in the creation on French House, and you'll be seeing his album in one of the upcoming '97 posts.

The Mighty Bop, more commonly known as Bob Sinclar, was another very important name during the foundations of French House. He even had a little incident with Thomas Bangalter over a certain track, to be posted eventually. This particular track that I posted is very Hip-hop/Breakbeat influenced along with the funk/space influences of the French Touch and, of course, is just as cool as everything else his peers were releasing at the time.

Dimitri From Paris
is so cool, that he's become the Playboy Mansions resident DJ. His style is a mix of House, Disco, Hip-hop, and Lounge. This is not really French House, but very much in line with the whole French Touch scene, almost like Daft Punk and Air had a child that decided to move to Cancun. And nobody can deny that the man has style.

Also, everyone should check out the blog Ilictronix. Great source for French House, among other stuff.

Mother Fucker's Gonna Drop The Pressure

Everyone knows this song, Mylo earned himself a place in electronic music history with this sucker. Here are some fantastic remixes/edits to drop in your sets and make the crowd go nuts or just simply enjoy to yourself, I suppose.

-M

Drop The Pressure (Laidback Luke Bootleg) - Mylo (Removed)
Laidback Luke is a house genius. He truly understands the meaning of buildup and drop, this track especially being no exception. Go HERE for more of his awesome bootlegs.

Drop The Pressure (Rex The Dog Remix) - Mylo
The bravest remix of the bunch, actually ventures to stray a bit from the original and play with the line and stuff and add in all sorts of crazy synths. Expect a Rex The Dog post eventually...

Drop The Pressure (Erol Alkan's Extended Re-Edit) - Mylo

Epicly long edit that apparently gets a lot of play from bigger than big DJs everywhere, including Sasha. It's definitely a good track, but not my personal choice to play, but I guess the point is that an over 9 minute track will definitely Keep Kids Dancing for a while.

Drop the Pressure 2009 (Electro Bass Mix) - Mylo

Not sure if this is Mylo or someone else reworking the track, but it packs a punch, if the title didn't already imply that enough. Cheers to Fake Tattoos for this track, even if they posted it ages ago.

BONUS:
Knock On Wood - Amii Stewart
For shits and giggles

Yellow Magic Orchestra

Since I wasn't at Ultra, I was doing my normal liberal arts college weekend all the meanwhile wondering what was going on at Ultra.  However, a few friends of mine (including Myles and my future roommate Nate) formed a funk band with some other guys here called Mad Wow Disease and played their first show.  Unbelievable.  I had such an amazing time and really am pumped to see them again.
On a side note, I decided I'd check out some of the Yellow Magic Orchestra tracks that I had downloaded a while ago in the hopes that I'd go through them one day for samples.  I stumbled upon this gem.  The quality is shit, but it's a cool song.  It's got a very disco house bass line, but instead it goes in the 80's, synth pop, classic electro direction, as french/disco house wasn't really in existence then, and these guys were pioneering this sound along with Kraftwerk anyways.

And if you ever want to grab some of their albums, you can grab them HERE.

Dimitri From Paris

Now, here's something I promised quite some time ago, A couple of Dimitri From Paris remixes of the philadelphia soul group Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, both tracks are from Dimitri's latest release on Supreme Records 'Southside Edits Vol. 1'
