My dream stache come true, ooh ooh.

-M

NYE Chicago Bulls Intro Remix - Pretty Lights (GOLDEN BANANA)
This is how you start a motherfucking set.

Nimbus (Original Mix) - DJ DLG (Silver Banana)
Word up to Electrogressive Hau5!

Out Of My Head (Libex Dream Mix) - Gramophonedzie (Silver Banana)
Gotta dance your ass off to this House track.  Disco flavor.

True Believer (Feat Metrik And Phetsta) (Phetsta Dubstep Mix) - Shock One
Heavy ass Dubstep, you won't be dissapointed if this is your steez.

Time Ft Delilah (Queb Remix) - Chase & Status
Speaking of Dubstep, one of the better remixes I heard of this track that's flooding them cloudysounds.  Give Queb some love.

Yeah Ha (Heartik Remix) - Saeed Younan
Tech House?  OLESDOIT.

Awooga (Original Mix) - Calvin Harris
Progressive House.  Not as good as I'm Not Alone in my opinion, he trie to be more straight up ravey.  I think he does a better pop hook.

Jay Fay Riddim - Jay Fay
Strictly percussion House.  Could easily fit into a Tech, Dutch, Baltimore, or UK Funky set.

Born This Way (Zedd Remix) - Lady Gaga
One of the heroes of Complextro earning his nod from Gaga herself?  Or at least her promo team.

Solar Sailer (Pretty Lights Remix) - Daft Punk
One of the other take away tracks from the Tron remix album.  Glitch Hopy.  This would work perfect with the acapella from I <3 U So - Cassius, someone make that bootleg, I'll post it.

-M

Breathless - Moonbeam (GOLDEN BANANA)
I love Moonbeam with a passion, any regular reader probably knows this.  It's where Techno meets Trance, and it's glorious.

Sunlight (Armand Van Helden Remix) - Bag Raiders (Silver Banana)
Feel good house music.  Crank the summer jams for Winter?

Autonomy (Original Mix) - Zedd
The chords in this track are absolutely incredible.  I wonder if they are sampled, but his solo over them lets me know that he at least understands them.  Electro House.

Stoli (Original Version) - Djuma Soundsystem & One Brother
Very relaxed, dark Progressive House.  Beautiful, but could only work at a Massive.

Going Back (Les Patrons Remix) - Bee4
Tech House, feels a lot like Deep House.

The 1st (Far Too Loud Re-fix) - X-Dream
These guys are one of my favorite recent discoveries that make BANGING Electro House.  This track is Breakbeat though.  They know the way to my heart for sure.

Tunnel Vision - Orbital
Speaking of breakbeat, here's some old school for you.  Not THAT old school, this is from 2004, just a mere 2 years before Justice hit the scene.

Tormenta Electronica (Original Mix) - Koen Groeneveld
Tech House, HUGH kick.  Also some 8bity sounds.

Cool (Original Mix) - Paul Thomas & Da Fresh
Progressive House on the major Tech side.  Also a sampled I've heard used several times already.

Feel Good - Modestep
I really like this sample.  Dubstep.

Thierry Henry

Kickin balls like a boss.  I can't believe he plays for the New York Redbulls...

-M

Ancova (Dry Edit) - Mumbai Science (GOLDEN BANANA)
So ready to hear this dropped at HARD this spring.  Tech House, pure rave.

Hungry Pony (Original Mix) - Darwin & Backwall (Silver Banana)
In my world, everyone's a pony, and they all eat rainbows, and poop butterflies.  +100 Bastille Love and Admiration Points if you know what the vocal sample is from.

Flash (Nicky Romero Remix) - Green Velvet
My friend actually begged me to ID this track after he heard Sebastian Ingrosso drop it at Webster Hall.

White Noise Red Meat (Bassjackers Remix) - Dada Life
Definitely the best remix of this track.  Electro House.

Seven Nation Army (The Glitch Mob Remix) - The White Stripes
AWESOME remix, I love getting emails from these guys.  They're very good about giving away free music, and this more fantastic work from them.

Amphetamine (Umek Remix) - Drax, Thomas P Heckmann, Drax Ltd II
Techno from one of the best.  Kinda Trancey line.

On the Loose (Spektre Remix) - Christian Cambas
More Techno from another one of the best.  This one's way more relaxed than usual.

Toyg (Manuel De La Mare Edit) - The Old Young Guy
Tech House, kinda dark/tribal feel.

Playground (Original Mix) - Jay Lumen
Tech House with a tribal feel.

Patience (HULK Remix) - Nas & Damian Marley

Colossus (New Layout)

So, we've got a new layout.  It's a lot easier for colorblind folk like myself to see whats going on.  This here batch is pretty good, I hope y'all enjoy yourselves.  It's got a little something for everyone.

If anyone can tell me the trick to beating the above Colossus, you'll earn +100 Bastille Love and Admiration points.

-M

Risingson (Bassnectar Remix) - Massive Attack (Golden Banana)
Starts real subby, then EXPLODES.  Hip-hop tempo.

Insomnia (Original Mix) - Starkillers, Pimp Rockers, Marco Machiavelli, Tom Hangs
A Dutchy remake of a 90s Anthem House classic.  You'll recognize it.

Something Good Can Work (The Twelves Remix) - Two Door Cinema Club
The Twelves just kill it.  Every single fucking time.  They were pretty fun at HARD LA.

Stinkfinger (Original Mix) - Doctor P, Flux Pavillion
Two of the most loved names in Dubstep.

I Feel Love feat. Wynter Gordo (Goodwil, Hook N Sling Remix) - Rhythm Masters, MYNC, Wynter G

WTNF - Marco V feat Benjamin Bates
More Tech House for the Rave crowd.  Or is it Techno?  Or is it Tech Trance.  Ugh...

Can You Hear Me Major Tom?

The top tune in this package in massive.  Enough to earn the picture above.  Whoever can name this character correctly, along with the game this picture is from, wins +10 Bastille Love and Admiration Points.  Let's GO!

-M

Paradise Poltergeist - Tai (Golden Banana)
Some serious tunage right here.  I'm gonna call this Electro Techno, but bigger names than me call this just Techno.  Get it while the gettin's good, this shit's hot off the press and very likely to be taken down.

Pound 4 Pound - edIT
Hell yes, I really can't get enough of this Breakbeat / Glitch Hop shit.

No Reasons (Angger Dimas Remix) - Alex Armes
Progressive banger, strings and all.  Super Big Room, I just see this exploding.

Gettt - DJ Antention
More face melting

Rawmania (Rubix Remix) - Solo
Sans distortion.  I don't think I'd play this live, but damn I like listening to it.  Tribaly House, klesmery sort of.

AZN Bran

We have a lot to thank the Asians for.  And by a lot I mean video games.  Here's a post of random stuff:

-M

Born Free (12th Planet Remix) - M.I.A. (Golden Banana)
Blast this from your car with the windows down and stare down the person next to you.  That's called rollin' deep.

How Deep Is Your Love - Keith Sweat
Old school R&B jam.  It's literally like sex coming from the speakers.  Tony, if you still read this, this song is for you.

Pick Up The Party - DJ Agent 86
Breakbeat, Funk, and Rap come together in the best way possible.  Highly recommend this jam.  +10 Bastille Love and Admiration points to whoever names the song and artist sampled for the beat of this one.

It Kills Me (Breakage Remix) - Melanie Fiona
Some UK Garage, this one's for you Jumpman.  Also, Breakage is killing it, everyone look out for this dude.

Freaks (Bird Peterson Remix) - Wale
Nice beat, glad to see new stuff from this guy.  If you remember, we interviewed him a while back, check it HERE.

Coco Drunk (Douster Remix) - Poirier
Not really my style, but I know lots of you get into this shit.  Bass heavy.

The Great Zany Show (Instrumental Mix) - Zany
Hardstyle Trance.  Gotta love it, really do.  Cheers DaftWho.

J is a Hipster

Tell me you don't look like this picture, just try.  Anyways, Hipsters like Dubstep, right?  Yeah.  And for the hell of it, I'll just throw in some DnB and Breakbeat.

-M

DUBSTEP

Innocence (Original Mix) - Nero (Golden Banana)
Just another super massive Dubstep track

Higher - Breakage
It's always nice to download a Dubstep track that isn't full of distortion, just good ol bass will do the trick.

No Holds Barred feat. Noisia (Excision Remix) - Noisia, Foreign Beggars
Crazy shit goes down

Paradice Circus (iSkream Social Remix) - Massive Attack
This one was a submission, and I gotta say super impressed.

Seek & Destroy (Bassnectar Remix) - Metallica
I'm pretty sure you know what to expect from this.

DRUM N BASS

Starts DnB, becomes Dubstep.  Excellent tool for your sets.

BREAKBEAT

The 4th Movement (The Glitch Mob Remix) - Krazy Baldhead (Bananas Banana)
Like Pretty Lights?

Phonat

I'm definitely late on this post, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.  Phonat rules, and although he had his moment of fame in the blogosphere, he definitely shouldn't be forgotten just as quickly like so many other guys.  His album is a cluterfuck of genres, including Electro, House, Breakbeat, Drum & Bass, and even an incredible Tech House track.  If you missed out on his emergence, you should definitely check him out, and even if you did catch it, I've got his whole album for you.

-M

Set Me Free (Extended Mix) - Phonat
A great House track, this is the one that was blogged like no other.  Fantastic sample, and some Prog elements too.

Learn To Recycle - Phonat (Golden Banana)
This is the track that really shows off his prowess.  He starts at a really slow bpm, speeds it up to a House track, and then ends on DnB.  Don't think I'd ever be able to work this into a set, but it still wows me every time I listen to it.

Phonat - Phonat (REMOVED)
This is the whole album.  Highly recommended.  You can buy it HERE.

BONUS:

Set Me Free (Aviici Remix) - Phonat
Fantastic Prog remix by the best producer of '09.

Set Me Free (Louis La Roche Reconstruction) - Phonat
The French touch by an Englishman.

Adrenalize (Phonat Deconstruction Remix) - Sharooz
Crazy Electro House.

Kolt13 and 2 Zig Zags

Kolt13, hailing from Gaul, just sort of burst onto the scene fairly recently, and has come out with killer production after killer production.  I'm incredibly impressed with the quality and speed that he cranks these suckers out with.  He makes Electro with a sort of 80s feel but not in the dreamy way, these are definitely dance tracks.  He's got a ton of blog support, we'll see if that's enough to break him through.

-M

Hey You (Kolt13 Remix) - Pony Pony Run Run (Golden Banana)
The first drop is so killer, awesome sidehcained arpeggiated gold.

God Knows (Kolt13's Pornostream Remix) - Tigersapien
Cool Electro Breaks track.

Fancy Footwork (KOLT13 Murdaphunk Remix) - Chromeo
I really dig the lead synth and the way he does the drums in this one.

Kolt13 Collection
By Track // Zipped

M's comp update:
So I've got a good amount of water damage, gonna cost $775 to repair.  Thank god for insurance.  And hey, this could mean one of those fancy new macbooks.

Behind Closed Doors

Finals done. Thank god. I'll get back to my usual posting habits now, starting by finishing up those batches. However, I wanted to put up this awesome album one of my buddies showed me in the beginning of the school year. Behind Closed Doors is an incredbile achievement. Kira Neris takes jazz samples to make awesome, loungey House/Breakbeat music, great stuff to kick back to. I guess they call it Nu-Jazz (fuck Nu anything), but some of this is just straight House which I'm sure you'll all appreciate. Oh, and the dude who made this is French, so...

-M

Through Dimensions - Kira Neris
Sample this track, if you like grab the whole album below

Breakbeat Batch #2

Time for a bunch of batches, basically gonna pick up where I left off from the last time. This batch is all about Breakbeat (which I unfortunately have very little of). These are tracks that I've collected somewhat recently by artists that I do not know or just wouldn't remember otherwise, so you won't be seeing many big names. But I guarantee that all of these tracks are fucking fire.

On an additional note, I'd like to give a shout out to some blogs that contributed greatly to these batches. So, big shout to ONEUPMANSHIP, Shifty Rhythms, and Zaber Riders (we've shouted at them plenty). You'll keep seeing their blog pictures attached the specific tracks they gave me as you check out the tracks in the upcoming batches.

-M

What's That Noize!? (Ft Beardyman) (Original Mix) - Ctrl Z Vs Screwface & Stereo:Type
Ha, this is awesome. Great beat with humor, hits really hard with a dirty ass Electro bass.

Go Away (Original Mix) - The Decepticonz
This track is pretty fast, so it would be good for people looking to spin faster sets or for a track to bridge Electro into Dubstep.

Mama Said Knock You Out (Z-Trip Remix) - LL Cool J
The complete other side of Breakbeat, this is Hip-hop tempo. Z-Trip rules, I don't give him enough credit.

Pop - *NSYNC (Golden Banana)
Yup. It's at 120 bpm, and it will kill in your set.

French House Arrest Episode XI: 98 Degrees

To finish up the year 1998, I figured that I'd put up some tracks that also came out that year to give a wider perspective on what was happening that year outside of French House in Electronic music. Pretty varied selection, let's do it, and get super pumped for 1999.

*Also note new poll on the right

-M

Breakbeat was dominating British dance parties, and Fatboy Slim was killing it with his funky, Hip-hop inspired jams that pretty much everyone can instantly recognize and sing along to. This track is no exception. He's definitely one of the best samplers the world has ever seen.

Though not French House, Air was right there this whole time helping to develop the French Touch sound. This song rules, you probably already have it.

Meanwhile in Germany, DJ Hell was pushing the German Techno scene forward, and would eventually come up with the worst genre name ever, Electroclash. Despite that horrible name, he made some awesome tracks. Some of his tracks get WAY too repetitive for me (and I can handle really repetitive), but this one's very cool. Great sampling.

When I think of Pop music, I usually think of Sweden (my glorious ancestry!). Fun Fact: The masterminds behind some of Britney Spears' early hits were random song writers from Sweden. Ace Of Bass, also Swedish, released this in 1998. No comment on my particular opinion of them, but once again this post is all about perspective, right?

*Note the expression of the dude in the top right

A Tribe Called Quest are incredible, and have released some of the best produced Hip-hop tracks, ever. They released an album called The Love Movement in '98, and it has this amazing track on it.

Look at All the Pretty Lights

Pretty Lights, who M and J saw at EDC doing his thing this past summer, has released a new album of awesome tracks. His unique blend of soulful samples, electro basses, and huge midtempo beats makes him one of my favorite DJs around right now. And he has all of his music available on the internet for free. So go grab it! And be sure to get "Filling Up the City Skies" while you're there—this guy really makes good stuff.

Breakbeat Batch

I want more Breakbeat, it's just a lot of fun and there isn't enough of it. Or maybe I don't know where to look. Regardless, here are a few tracks that I've found that I think you'll enjoy:

-M (is there any point in even signing these anymore?)

It's the Weekend (Breaks Vocal Version) - Andrew Friendly feat. Fast Eddie

Hard hitting Electro Breaks. I love this shit. The vocals are definitely cheesy, but the rest is absolutely killer.

Gangsters (2 Bit Thugs ReRub) (Dirty version) - Rico Tubbs

Fidgety Breaks? Whatever, it definitely works.

The Party (Splitloop Remix) - Rico Tubbs

I've posted this before, I love it, it rules. This would just destroy a crowd, I know it, but I do have yet to test it out.

BONUS:
The Black Pearl (Dave Darell Remix) - Scotty
Dave Darell, German Electro House genius, does Pirates Of The Caribbean. That should wet your pants if you've been reading this blog for a while.

French House Arrest Episode VII: Oizoliscious

Man, I'm so happy to be posting again. This is the last post on the godly year that was 1997. In this episode is the first release from one of our favorite producers. Also, I'm posting the album that defined rave music during its time, and it sure wasn't house.

-M

Jumpman tells me that this release is the result of Oizo handing in some demos to Laurent Garnier, who then told him that he should be making music. In fact, most of Oizo's pre Ed Banger Releases were on Garnier's label, F Communications. Now Mr. Oizo rules, and surely you all know that. Every time he releases something, it has a completely new sound but still contains that unique sound that's undeniably Oizo. However, this release is somewhat French House, but much more along the lines of the Motorbass / I:Cube techno-y / deep house sound rather than the disco sounds that were becoming more and more popular during this year. This is not an accessible EP by any means, but my guess is that if you're reading this, you're a fan of Mr. Oizo and are at least curious to try it out. If you haven't heard of Oizo, then just take my word for it: this shit is cool as hell.

This album is the shit. While the French were making house cool again, those British blokes by the name of The Prodigy (but everyone knows it was all Liam Howlett) were tearing the rave shit up with their undeniably awesome hardcore sound. I'm gonna bet that Breakbeat music comes back soon. I mean all the big names have been touring recently, and there are NO Breakbeat producers getting any rep on blogs. It may take a year a two, but when 90's culture rears it's head back into popularity, you can bet that underground Breakbeat producers and DJs will too. I'm actually really excited.

BONUS:
The Party (Splitloop Remix) - Rico Tubbs

Contemporary, probably the only new Breakbeat track that I've gotten from blogs (Pelski specifically). It's awesome, and I want more from Splitloop. Big Electro influence. DJs looking for something different to drop in their sets should definitely pick this up. If anyone has ANY Splitloop, PLEASE hook me up.

Once again, for those of you that follow this blog, if the blog for some reason disappears without warning again, just head on over to apeswithbarrels.wordpress.com where we'll continue our mission to become the greatest pirates to ever surf teh interweb.

French House Arrest Episode IV: Backtrack

I do still insist that 1997 is the biggest year for French House, but I realized that I left out some important/awesome developments that occurred in 1996.

-M

Now I can't really speak for its significance in terms of the evolution of the genre, but this did predate '97 and is just awesome. The true winner is the remix from DJ Gregory (my favorite track in this post), but the I:Cube remix is also amazing. I:Cube is another important DJ in the creation on French House, and you'll be seeing his album in one of the upcoming '97 posts.

The Mighty Bop, more commonly known as Bob Sinclar, was another very important name during the foundations of French House. He even had a little incident with Thomas Bangalter over a certain track, to be posted eventually. This particular track that I posted is very Hip-hop/Breakbeat influenced along with the funk/space influences of the French Touch and, of course, is just as cool as everything else his peers were releasing at the time.

Dimitri From Paris
is so cool, that he's become the Playboy Mansions resident DJ. His style is a mix of House, Disco, Hip-hop, and Lounge. This is not really French House, but very much in line with the whole French Touch scene, almost like Daft Punk and Air had a child that decided to move to Cancun. And nobody can deny that the man has style.

Also, everyone should check out the blog Ilictronix. Great source for French House, among other stuff.

The Chemical Brothers - Singles

This is my last post until someone else puts something up. Jumpman, you asked me to put this up a while ago so here it is, catch up on their material before you see them live at Coachella.

Wow, that took 7 minutes to do, and I was even able to listen to music and look at other blogs and shit while the zip file uploaded.
