Obscure Video Game Character #3

It's time again.  Who's that wide-eyed fella with the oh so pink hair?  +500 Bastille Love and Admiration Points to the first to post the correct answer.

-M

I Think I Like It (Tommie Sunshine & Figure present EC$TACY EDIT) - Fake Blood (Golden Banana)
By no means new, but I just now realize I never posted this gem.  They made it into more of a classic Disco House track, and I'd much more likely play this live.

Destroy Me (Original Mix) - Miles Dyson, Jerique
Some Electro House from one of the best.

Mind Tricks - La Zebra
Great Disco House track, super sidechained.

In Violet (Hidden Cat Remix) - HEALTH
Beautiful stuff from Hidden Cat, kinda Nu-Disco/Electro feel.  If you've been reading us for a while, you might remember our interview with this guy, if not check it HERE.

KMA (Rynecologist AA Stock Remix) - AutoErotique & SonicC
Ravey Electro.  Maybe Electro Techno?

Stick Shaker (Original Mix) - Koen Groeneveld
Techno, on le minimal side.  You should know what to expect, we post a lot of this dude.

Tweet It (Original Mix) - Tim Berg (aka Avicii), Norman Doray, and Sebastian Drums
Big ass room Progressive House.

Miles Dyson

Due to a request from Guy, here comes a post that all the Electro House heads should love.  Miles Dyson is a king of Electro House, and I'm sure you've heard of him before if you're reading this.  Banger city.

-M

Outro - Miles Dyson (Golden Banana)
Brilliant sampling.

You Too (Miles Dyson Remix) - Aspin, Dipace, Luvstuff
I recognize that piano, and the bass in this kills.

Live In Mexico (Original Mix) - Miles Dyson
The Carmina Burana, remixed.

Melodik Hypnotik (Miles Dyson Remix) - Elite Force
Another awesome, hardcore track.

I could keep going, but I'll just skip to the collection now:

Best Buildups

Somebody requested a best drops post, so in order to prepare for M's post on that, I decided to do a best buildups post. You gotta remember that a lot of the best drops also have best buildups, so I tried not to overlap. I realize this list doesn't include everything, but it really would be hard to think of all of those. These are some that came to mind in no particular order, these are also in no way new.

So it's like, damn that girl's fine, and I wanna dance with her but I like needs somethin to gets it started. I gots to put on those phat beats you know what i'm s ayin. It's like sometimes you walkin into the room and turnin heads just ain't enough, you gotta make everybdy start feelin it. Just like carry a cd with some of these beats on you at all times to throw shit down.

-J

Wake up by Les Petits Pilous, The buildup in song is epic as hell, but for some reason I was never satisfied with the drop, but I still like the song.

Zdaright by Digitalism I would put magnets and their remix of technologic in the same boat.

So Haunted (Knightlife's sun soaked Remix) by Cut Copy, this was my jam for a bit.

Je Veux Te Voir by Yelle, How couldn't a song about Cuzinier's small dick not have an epic buildup.

Love to edit by Crookers, who wouldn't expect this on here.

I Want your soul (Fake Blood Remix) by Armand Van Helden, I wouldn't call this an epic buildup, but it's just so fucking cool.

The Things you say (Dirty South Remix) by Cicada, Again not the most epic, but that voice is so cool and eerie it puts everybody in awe.

P.O.V. (Steve Angello Remix) by Kim Fai

Don't Think About Me (Miles Dyson Remix) by Lazy Rich, This song is all about the second buildup. Me and my boy tony were sitting in his room and we heard this and just were like damn this shit's hot. This gets it started.

Lovelight (Soulwax Ravelight Remix) by Robbie Williams, this took a while but it grew on me hardcore.

Bonus:

I'm sorry for posting our own shit, but 1. as we really were very influenced by the soulwax remix above and 2. I'm very proud of this buildup, in fact it's basically the whole purpose of the song.

Crazy Disco (Bastille Remix) by JELO and Adam K.

Yo, any peeps got any additions?
Go Nuts, Go Ape Shit.

All this shit zipped.

Felguk!

Felguk is an absolutely incredible Electro House duo from Brazil. If you enjoy Electro House, you MUST grab these tracks. While they have some very hard hitting tracks, some are just plain beautiful and melodic while still staying dancey as fuck. It's almost like a more playful Deadmau5 with some clear German electro influence (I mean, they even collaborated with the infamous Spencer & Hill). Been meaning to do this post for a long time, but I just have so many tracks of theirs that I've been dreading the upload, but it's finally time to put em out there. Enjoy:
Oh yeah, and all tracks are 320, with the exception of ONE of the tracks in the collection at the bottom, which is actually 319...

-M

Step On The Scene Part 1 (Original Mix) - Felguk
My personal favorite of the bunch. This track is a fucking epic journey through chord changes.

Side By Side (Original Mix) - Felguk
This track just kills too. So beautiful and yet so hard hitting at the same time. It's kind of like a mix between Progressive and Electro. Let's call it Electrogressive!

Harder Better Faster Stronger (Felguk Remix) - Daft Punk

Tired of playing the original, or perhaps the Deadmau5 remix? This is a FANTASTIC substitute. Will make your crowd go nuts for sure.

Guess What (Original Mix) - Felguk

Wow. There isn't much Electro House out there that sounds like this. Truly Unique. This track in particular is like a Progressive version of Fidget House, only way I can really describe it.

And, for those of you who are particularly enjoying what you're hearing, you can grab my entire Felguk collection below (24 Tracks, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED).

ALSO, cheers to the blog 310electro for introducing me to Felguk. Great blog, I love it.

Stingy Rich

Lazy Rich is a fantastic Electro House producer from Vancouver and friend of Miles Dyson, which should tell you everything you need to know about his style of music.  If you happen to be unfamiliar with either of these names, they both make incredibly hard hitting Electro House which is great because their tracks works great for lots of situations and fit into electro sets for your hipster, liberal arts college crowd as well as house sets for your massive candy raver crowd.  I posted tracks by both of them in this post in case you missed it, along with an Electro House anthem by Sharooz.  Unfortunately, Lazy Rich is not a big fan of giving away free music, even for low quality; however, I managed to find these few tracks in random places and they're all great quality.  Also, you can read a great interview of him HERE.

P.S.  Apes With Barrels is proud to announce that we will soon be featuring an interview with an artist that we have posted about on this very blog.  I am also proud to announce that I will be working with this artist to book them a show at Wesleyan.  Get pumped!

Sharooz

Glad I stumbled upon this, because the one genre I really really really want more of is hard hitting Electro House. Sharooz is just that. He comes from London (it seems the UK is doing quite well for itself now). Here's his track Get Off with some remixes, including one from Miles Dyson, a name that's synonymous with hard hitting Electro House. The other remixes are definitely worth your time as well. The Superstrobe is minimal/chipy/ravey and the Lazy Rich is more housey with a cool electro bassline that comes in, something I could actually see someone like Laidback Luke dropping if he was in an electro mood. Every song is perfect for live play, just depends on your set which one you'd pick. I'd probably go with the Original or the Lazy Rich one as its probably the most accessible.

And catch an interview with Lazy Rich HERE, where he even talk about Aoki and the hipster movement.

Also, I was talking to one of Jordan's friend's from NYU that produces, I'll do a post on his stuff when I get more of it, and he recommended this book called The Dance Music Manual. Sounds like the perfect summer reading and reference book.
