Let The Children Techno!

If you had any doubt left in your mind that every Electro act east of the Atlantic hasn't got their eyes set on Techno, let this cast the final light.  Ed Banger climbs out of the Abyss in order to join forces with favorites from Boys Noize Records, Turbo, Institubes, and Brainfeeder (I know, crazy) to bring you a brand new compilation.  After a thorough listen, the album actually caught me by surprise since the overall feeling is much more relaxed than I anticipated as well asvery hit and miss.  That said, there are some real gems on this sucker and I will always have a hard on for anything with artwork by So Me.  Regardless, we can all just be thankful that while DSL made the cover, they most certainly didn't make the compilation.

French House Arrest Episode XII: 1999

Gonna revive an old series I do here on the development of the best damn genre of dance music there is.  This is French House Arrest.  You can check out the earlier episodes by clicking on the link under Best of AwB.  This episode will be the first on the great year of 1999.  I've got one of the best damn French House albums of all time, along with two tracks from some great French dudes.

1999 - Cassius

I love Cassius.  At the time, they were like the 'other' Daft Punk that didn't really make it.  And deservedly so, they aren't gods, but they did put out one of the best damn French House releases ever.  Cassius is Boom Bass and Philippe Zdar, who was a member of Motorbass (the first French House group, read about it HERE), produced the latest Phoenix album, and is producing the new album by The Rapture.  Why is this album important?  It's a great definition of the genre, that is, the sound they create is cooler than you can ever hope to be.  Listening requires lighting up a cigarette.

ALSO, Cassius just released a new EP on Ed Banger Records TODAY.  It's not that great, unfortunately, but it's nice to see that Ed Banger still exists and is working with some legends of the past.

My Kind of...Chicago - Jackson

Meet Jackson.  Sometimes, he goes by Jackson and His Computer Band.  However, back in 1999, he was just Jackson.  He's sort of fallen into obscurity, unfortunately, but he will always be a legend among the French DJ scene.  Here's a little rare gem he released in 1999 that I picked up a while back.  Who ever said drum machines have no soul?  And if you're looking to cop his recent IDM album, you can do so HERE.

Feadz: People Money Numbers Business - EP

Ed Banger hasn't been releasing much this year, they'd built up so much momentum over the past few years but have been relatively quiet since, probably due to all the touring, but they need to pick up the game considering how prolific Boys Noize manages to be, however with that being said, wait, i would also like to comment that Krazy Baldhead's release wasn't that great i was dissapointed after his earlier material, ok with all that being said, their latest release, by none other than french electro house DJ/Producer and former Uffie-mate, Feadz is really fantastic, i've always liked his material, which has this raw, funky, old-school, 80's, hip-hop sound. Every release, especially since he got signed to Ed Banger has been getting better and better, and plus he helped Mr. Oizo out making analog wormz attack, so that puts him pretty high in my book. Thank God he didn't dissapoint. The first track 'Constant Ovulation' is really oldschool electro/techno in the end, but still pretty cool , although it is my least favorite on the EP. The Second track 'The Bright Side' is just a really amazing electro-house track, not a banger but, just like a pretty 80's track, vaguely reminiscent of like boys noize's mellower housey tracks. As for the third track 'Age 21': MMM this track sounds so french to me, this ones more ravey, its like cool but electro-ey 90's house, love this one. 'Liisborg Error' is definately the hardest hitting track on here, just really ravey electro-house, really amazing stuff here, unexpected sound from feadz though. The 'Flashin' Outro' is just classic french house, just really good. Overall, really nice EP, maybe his best. But i don't know how accesible it is really in the end. you judge. really listen, if your reading this blog you'll enjoy it>>>

Lufrkkk (how the hell do you pronounce that?) is a breakbeat/electro producer from Brazil, the homeland of our heroes The Twelves. He sent us a fantastic remix of Rage Against The Machine. Now I know that anyone who's been listening to electro for a while is incredibly partial to SebastiAn's unforgettable remix, but I assure you that this one is worth your time. It's longer and gives you mixing room in the beginning and end, therefore much more DJ friendly. It's also just awesome, like really awesome. It's one of those tracks that's just guaranteed to kill the crowd. Have a listen:

Djedjotronic is an electro house producer from Paris, France and is on Boys Noize Records, or the new kings of dance music. He's strange, like a lot of other artists on the label, but has been producing some incredibly awesome tracks proving that he deserves his spot on possibly the most exciting label right now. The first track of his I heard since it was featured on BNR Vol 1. Very strange, doesn't sound like his other tracks as much, but has one of the best vocal hooks out in my opinion.

Gum Attack - Djedjotronic
Already posted this a while back, but here it is again if you happened to miss it. This track is the opposite of lazy, as he never repeats himself.

Disco Villains

The other day I was sitting on my bed, and my roommate, who usually plays these electro mixes full of songs I already know (including one with ghosts and stuff), played the remix I posted of We Are your friends. Even just hearing the first aspect of We are your friends made me skeptical. You don't fuck with that song unless you really think you have something good. I was so ready to just dismiss it off the bat, being as pretensious about this kind of stuff as I am. But it really caught my attention and got me interested. Later I found a disco villains remix of Tiga, which is by far the best remix of mind dimension I have heard so far (which is saying a lot as there are so many out there). Thank Matt for introducing me to The Disco Villains.
