Nightcall

Kavinsky (1968-1986)

Cause of Death: Car Crash
Location: Outskirts of Paris
Estimate Time/Date of accident: Unknown
Corpse Status: Unknown

Additional Information: Entry 1- 00/00/1986 Died in a car crash whilst driving his (beloved) Testarossa. Mr Kavinsky was brought into the hospital by a female supposedly called LoveFoxxx. Shortly after storing Mr Kavinsky’s body for future medical research/organ transplants, a group of Medicine Students found Mr.Kavinsky’s body missing along with his medical records.

Entry 2 - 00/00/2005: Rumors have reached the Police suggesting that Mr Kavinsky has come back from the dead. Evidence shows that in fact Mr Kavinsky has been spotted in nightclubs all around the world with the likes of
SebastiAN, Daft Punk, A-Trak and Sebastien Tellier. After a short interview between detectives and RECORD MAKERS who allege that they’ve worked/spoken with Kavinsky state that he denies being dead and that it’s 2010.

Entry 3- 2010: RECORD MAKERS and KAVINSKY have released Nightcall which has already caught the attention of many top Producers and and Djs alike.

Some of my fav Nightcall Remixes:

Nightcall (Breakbot remix)- Kavinsky Another beautiful tune by Breakbot, very chilled and makes me feel like i was in the 70s/80s for real!Golden Banana

Nightcall (The Chaotic Good Remix)- Kavinsky TCG are a DJ Duo from the US that are still a bit unknown to the public. Although they haven't released an EP yet!(to my knowledge at least) their remixes of nightcall and Kickdrums by Felix da Housecat show promise that this duo has potential to release some really gud shit in the near futur!

Nightcall (MMMathias Remix)- Kavinsky If you don't know who this guy then you're seriously missing out....Best unknown known producer banana

Nightcall (The Girls Can Hear Us Remix) A dirtier alternative to the previous 3 remixes... who are the
The Girls Can Hear Usyou ask?

Bonus:

These are from his previous EP

Testarossa Overdrive (SebastiAN remix)- KavinskyEpic Banana because I love everything that this guy edits remixes and produces!

Testarossa Autodrive (Mr Oizo Remix)- Kavinsky Epic Banana this Guy needs no intro, no description, no explanation, if you're in the dirty electro scene this guy probably already has your respect

EEDEESEE

I feel like I either defeat EDC, or am defeated by it.  This year was probably the latter.  Not that it wasn't awesome, just damn was it a night.  Here's our review for the 2010 Electric Daisy Carnival.

BEST

Wolfgang Gartner

I mean, he's the second fucking coming of christ.  And he played Yin.  Also heard what most certainly were unreleased tracks that sounded sick as fuck.  Man's really the best.

Boys Noize

This will be the 4th time I've seen this dude.  Hopefully you've all already had the pleasure as well.  His stage presence is always top notch.  But if that's not enough, check out the first 3 songs in his setlist:

Kontact Me (Rynecologist Turbine Remix) - Boys Noize
Lyposuct (Original) - D.I.M. & TAI
Yeah, Techno! (Soulwax Mix) - Paul Chambers

Felix Cartal

J liked his set more than Boys Noize, and it was definitely a competitor.  Boys Noize had the advantage of bigger stage, better lights, headlining slot, and well, just being Boys Noize.  That said, Felix managed to get his daytime crowd jumping, and was dropping some awesome fucking tracks.  He also just looked dope on stage.  He's come a long way since I first saw him for free at Vassar.

Beyond God To Elvis (Felix Cartal Remix) - From Monument To Masses
THIS MACHINE DON'T GIVE A SHIT

GOOD

Fedde Le Grand

Caught the end of his set before Boys Noize.  Good stuff, not as stand out as the above stuff, but definitely enjoyable.  Some songs were too minimal and just got boring and you could see it in the crowd, but he's redeem himself with the next song.  He played this Hardwell bootleg that I'm not too crazy about, but I love the song underneath it:

Laidback Luke

I'm sure he would have been in the best list, but we couldn't get onto the floor for the main stage.  We saw the end of his set from the stands where the sound was really shitty.  Then he dropped some Dubstep and Drum & Bass.  Hearing that at the Main Stage at EDC was nice.

Groove Armada

We didn't catch much of their set either, but it sounded dope.  We were just pretty tired then and their stuff was sort of trancier than we needed to get us hyped.  But I'll put em here.

WORST

Duck Sauce

This was such a disappointment to me.  When we got there, it just wasn't going over well.  I heard them drop one of their originals called Grand Steppin which is like the homage to Daft Punk's Homework, and the crowd was not having it really.  Don't get me wrong, I fucking love it, but it wasn't what I wanted to hear at a rave.  As we were leaving to catch Fedde, they dropped a dope House track, so maybe it was just the tiny amount of time we were there, but we weren't willing to wait around for it to get better.

Will.I.Am

Since when is playing a pop song, stopping it to say things, and then playing another pop song considered DJing?  We only saw him because we wanted to get into the main stage to see Laidback Luke, but it was impossible.  Hearing songs like Thriller mixed in is awesome, but when you're just playing these types of songs to be a crowd pleaser, you're a bitch, especially when you're not even mixing them.  Fuck you, Will.I.Am, I got a feeling you should stick to the studio.

Sunday Bloody Sunday

Yesterday I was drunk for a straight 13 hours. I'll tell you right now, probably wasn't the best idea.

Jeffer (Modeselektor Remix) - Boys Noize
Hell yeah, this track is awesome. Super dancey and Ravey in that Modeselektor style.

I Didn't Know My Own Strength (Daddy's Groove Club Mix) - Whitney Houston
Daddy's Groove blow me away again. Progressive Bomb.

8000 - Proxy
Different from his other stuff, still very heavy Electro but sounds a lot more mature to me especially due to the big House influence. I like.

Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix) - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
In case you missed this one (must have been very difficult to do so, but I know some of our readers don't subscribe to the whole popular Discodust thing).

Way of Love (Dave Darell Remix) - Tocadisco Feat. Vangosh
Nice Prog track from one of my favorites. He can really kill any style he goes for. The super detuned lead is incredible in this one.

This Lineup Makes Me HARD

Jesus christ. The funny thing is that it actually got more exciting for me the further I went down on the list.

Born Slippy [Nuxx] - Underworld
For those of you who happen to be unfamiliar with the headliner, and I'm sure that a lot are, here's Underworld's most famous track. You'll recognize it immediately. Why they're headlining an electro rave, I'm really not sure. However, as they've been doing this shit for years, I'm sure they'll put on a fantastic show. But I'm definitely most excited for SebastiAn and A-Trak.

Here's why Underworld will be awesome

A-Trak being the fantastic DJ that he is mixing Daft Punk, the best DJ in the lineup

SebastiAn killing it with emotional support from Kavinsky

No April Fools for me, just some Laidback stuff

The one artist who I was really surprised to not see playing at Ultra music festival (though he did play on thursday night at some club, which I learned too late) is Laidback Luke. Having never been a huge fan of house until very recently, Laidback Luke always seemed to get through to me. Laidback for quite a few of his productions takes a very similar (if not the exact same) sound as we hear in Robin S.' s Show me Love, hence the mashup of Show me Love and Be.

As this is a new blog I'm going to post a few new things I just recently found as well as some oldies which really effected me when I first found them.

*NOTE ALL LINKS REMOVED

I'm pretty sure this is a really old song, but I never had it:
Housetrap by Laidback Luke

The Great Fashionista Swindle (Laidback Luke mix) by Dada Life (I think Laidback and Dada life are friends)

Last Dance (Laidback Luke remix) by Laidback Luke (it might not be this artist)

Hey! by Laidback Luke and Diplo

Show (original mix) by Laidback Luke and Tom Stephan Feat. Romanthony

Need Your Lovin (Laidback Luke Bootleg) by Korgis

Zombie Nation (Laidback Luke remix) by Laidback Luke

Bang that Box (laidback Luke remix) by Roger Sanchez feat. Terri B

Finally (Laidback Luke bootleg) by Ce Ce Peniston

Shake it down by A trak and Laidback Luke (I used to only kinda like this song, until I heard it live at ultra)

Some old Classics:

Delirious (Laidback Luke remix) by David guetta (For Chase)

His most famous song:

Break the House down (Original mix) by Laidback Luke

I want you (Laidback Luke remix) by Martin Solveig

Be by Steve Angello and Laidback Luke

Rocking With the best by Laidback Luke

And here's a video of his remix of Teachers by Daft Punk

Hystereo

You may remember Hystereo from their remix of Teenage Bad Girl, well turns out they also remixed Idealistic by Digitalism.  I don't really know anything about these guys, but I've heard great reviews of their album, Corporate Crimewave, but haven't been able to find it.  But this remix is massive and would destroy in any electro set.  I think it might even beat the A-Trak remix.

P.S.  Ju Shu, ask Alex if he'll master our tracks!
