Alesso kills it again.  Ravey intro somewhat reminiscent of Soulwax that eventually drops into a massive epic Prog track.

Huge Beatport success for this one.  Big crowd pleaser and fun House groove.

Another huge, epic Dubstep track from the Brits that never stop.

Wow, this track is awesome.  Electro House that starts with a driving, almost Nu Disco influenced bass, but the second drop, Jesus.

Out Of Body - Jack Beats (Golden Banana)
I must have missed this one when it came out, but I definitely remember hearing them drop this.  I must have picked this up in a best of 2010 list somewhere.  This is definitely a memorable track, and I'll leave it at that.

Everyday (Digital Lab Dub) - Sgt Slick (Silver Banana)
Dropping bananas all over this post.  This is a BIG Progressive House track on the Housey side, especially with them piano chords.  BIG sound due to the Trance kick and just full amazing production, this will definitely be played out by big DJs.

California Roll - Mightyfools (Silver Banana)
Big step up for these guys, awesome Electro House.  Really fun and driving, and fantastic melody.

Progressive House with great drums.  Basically more like groovy Tech House with Prog elements.

Like your Techno super dark and pretty?  I do too.  Progressive Techno?  This track would hit SO HARD on the right system.

Born Slippy [Nuxx] - Underworld
For those of you who happen to be unfamiliar with the headliner, and I'm sure that a lot are, here's Underworld's most famous track. You'll recognize it immediately. Why they're headlining an electro rave, I'm really not sure. However, as they've been doing this shit for years, I'm sure they'll put on a fantastic show. But I'm definitely most excited for SebastiAn and A-Trak.

Foamo is a fidget house producer/DJ from the UK, like the rest of them, that makes some really great tracks. His production style is great for both the college crowd and the electro candy raver crowd. Can't wait to see him at EDC.

His most recent remix that I grabbed from Discodust. It's incredible. I listened to it and then just decided to stop doing my school work which I really need to do and instead make a set of bangers. Also triggered a tiny little Foamo phase which in turn triggered this post.

London Town (Foamo Remix) - Man Like Me
Another new one from Discodust, gotta love the super high pitched vocals. Great bass too, though not unlike his other tracks really.

Already posted this, but I couldn't write about Foamo without putting this in there. It's amazing. One of the best tracks of 2008. It would make my life if he dropped this at EDC.

Wut Is F1dget Hou$e?

If you are an avid electro fan and blog reader, then you've definitely stumbled upon the term "Fidget House." Well, I'm here to explain what the hell this genre, that I used to fervently deny the existence of, is all about, or at least what I understand it to be. This sort of music has been the shit, if you will, for about a year now and seems to be in somewhat of a decline as the viscious blog audience is already hungry for something new (here's a discussion on this topic via Discodust (LINK)). Well, as far as I have observed, Fidget House tends to have these characteristics:

Fidget House
1. A busy/bouncey house beat that likes to play with snare rhythms and sample breakbeats
2. Bass synths with heavy use of LFO or filter envelopes to give it a fidgety/wobbly/wonky/other commonly used yet horribly undescriptive word (It's almost like a cry baby pedal effect) sound
3. Common use of cut up vocal samples (often from old school tracks) that act almost like percussion
4. The majority of it comes out of the UK. If you are listening to British electro, there's a very good chance that it's fidget house.

I'm still going to tag fidget tracks as electro since they appeal to electro fans more anyways. And if you're one of those people that is wondering what the next thing is, look to house, its been around for a while and still running strong and continuing to innovate/reinvent itself. Here is a selection of genre defining tracks and artists, starting with a excellent mock track:

Is This Fidget? A Musical Commentary - Brabe
Awesomely sarcastic track. He's got the sound down to a tee. However, this is NOT a Fidget Track to play live, but rather to simply enjoy and laugh with.

Restless (Fake Blood Remix) - UNKLE
Probably my favorite fidget house artists is Fake Blood (EDC BITCHES). He's the shit. He made one of the best dance tracks of 2008 with Mars, but here's something you might not have and definitely should. There was a good month when he was my favorite producer.

Bonkers - Dizzee Rascal & Armand Van Helden
It makes sense that Armand would start making fidget house, as it was probably a very easy transistion for him and he does it very well. This is one of the songs that made me finally admit the existence of this genre.

Half In Love With Elizabeth (Foamo Remix) - Mystery Jets
One of the best tracks of 2008 and one of the best dance tracks out there. It's amazing. Can't wait to see Foamo at EDC. Also very jealous that the kids as UCSB got his first US performance EVER.

Licky (Herve Gets Low Remix) - Larry T & Princess Superstar
Herve is one of, if not THE giant of this genre and scene. He's got a ton of material which should all go and get, or I might just do a big post at some point. Can't stress enough how important Herve is to this music.

Protect & Entertain (Crookers Remix) - Busy P
Believe it or not, this is definitely fidget house. Crookers are said to be one of the first artists to create this genre, and I definitely see it. If you don't believe me, listen to this track again and you'll hear it.

The Kiss (Jack Beats Remix) - Kissy Sell Out
The goal of Jack Beats in this song seems to just show off the fact that they can make their synths make crazy ass sounds, and I love it. They're one of my favorite fidgeters for sure, as their better songs are incredible, overshadowing their iffy songs. Refer to earlier post on them (LINK).

Meddle (AC Slater & DJ Skeet Skeet Remix featuring Goldielocks) - Little Boots
I'm not a big fan of AC Slater, but he's one of the champions of the fidget sound. This remix is pretty good, and the last two tracks I've gotten from him have been a huge improvement. Maybe my opinion will significantly change about him in the future, I'm definitely open to it.

It Ain't Love (Bird Peterson Remix / JFK Edit) - MSTRKRFT
Probably the best thing to come from the new MSTRKRFT album is this remix. Bird Peterson is also playing EDC, in case you forgot.

Apologies for not posting any Sinden, but he's another Fidget House producer that's made a name for himself and worth checking out. He's does a lot of collaborations with The Count Of Monte Cristal (aka Herve), which should tell you almost everything you need to know about him.

Jack Beats Off

Jack Beats are an electro/dubstep crossover duo, very similar to Foamo, from the UK that have bee making ripples in the blogosphere (I'm sorry, I'll never use that word again). It seems that the UK is doing well with the experimental/dubstep/electro/fidget/insert super specific genre term while Sweden is dominating house. Oh France, how you've fallen from grace. Well, Jack Beats make some pretty dope shit, which for me is hit and miss but the hits are fantastic. Here are my favorite tracks.

Drop The Pressure (Jack Beats 'Rinsed Out Rave' Remix) - Project Bassline
The best Jack Beats song, hands down. Fantasticly amazing, a sure banger for any electro DJ.

Get Down (Original Mix) - Jack Beats
VERY similar to Drop The Pressure, but not as good. They pretty much took the same formula and applied it to this song. However, still a great track, and definitely different enough to even be played in the same set.

Jack Got Jacked (Jack Beats Remix) - AC Slater
First Jack Beats song I ever got. It's good and I was impressed but its definitely not their best.

The Kiss (Jack Beats Remix) - Kissy Sell Out
Great great great great great. I'd play this in my next set, but I still haven't had a chance to drop the Project Bassline remix.

Got U Dancing (Jack Beats Remix) - Lady Soveirgn
I was debating whether or not to put this up. It's good, but I probably wouldn't play it live.
