That Time of the Year

So it's that time of the year where we go on a 'survival of the fittest' stage. Lock ourselves in plain black and white room decorated with nothing more than a boring desk, an uncomfortable chair and two piles of horrendous and tedious books/notes... Oh and a mobile just in case you need to ring up that guy that has copied down every single lecture that you probably didn't go to, or to order food.

Here's the Exam survival pack I've put together a comp of tech house, progressive house, chill house, tech and vocal house in all its 320 kbps glory:

Amazzonia (David Tort Remix) - Giorgio Giordano Epic Banana

Push Me (Popof Remix) - Maetrik

Call My Name (Original Mix) - Sultan, Ned Shepard

Control Room (Original Mix) - Fedde Le Grand Epic Banana

Better Day (David Jones Rework) - Alex Martello, Guby
Gold Banana

The Mistress (Dan Castro Remix) - Ben Dj & TT Orchestra

Shake it (Terrace Vocal Mix) - Lee Cabrera vs Thomas Gold

Love is Darkness - Sander Van Door feat Carol Lee

The Biscuit (Original Mix) - Uppermost (GOLDEN FUCKING BANANA)
Jesus christ.  Electro House at it's best.  This is what I wish more complextro stuff sounded like.  It's not just a giant barrage of shit in your face for the entire song, it's got fucking swagger.  It has life.  It also slows down to hip hop tempo and speeds up again.

Chickflick (Boris Dlugosch Remix) - Zombie Nation (Silver Banana)
Electro Techno anyone?

Riots (Original Mix) - Jeremy Olander (Silver Banana)
This is Eric Prydz's protege, and I fucking love Eric Prydz in a obsessive schoool girl kind of way.  Progressive House seriously bordering Tech.

Feel So Free (Original Mix) - Smooth
Drum & Bass.  When you need the speed.

Super Awesesome LFO's Bro - St. Andrew
^Super Awesome.  Techno that turns into Electro Techno.  I should look into these guys more.

Places - Shlohmo
Beautiful beat music coming from Los Angeles (or maybe San Francisco, can't remember where's he at now).

The Lurker (Original Mix) - Psycatron
TECHNOOOOOOOOOO, le Minimal.

One Look (Axwell vs Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Instrumental Mix) - David Tort Feat. Gosha
Big collab here, but not a lot of press (nor one of their best).  Progressive House.

Buzz Me (Rework 2011 Master) - Felguk
An update on one of their awesome tracks.  I'll still always love this kind of Electro House more than the wave of Complextro happening right now, which got way too stale way too fast.

Aura (David Mayer & Keinemusik Remix) - Sante & Re.you
Unique House track, not sure where I stumbled upon this.  It's interesting, that's for sure.  Definitely wouldn't play it.

No Way Out (David Tort Remix) - Spirit Catcher (GOLDEN BANANA)
Definitely one of the greatest Tech House tracks you can get right now.  Difficult to describe, all I can say is that it's incredible.

Roger More (Phonat Re-Edit) - LL Ton J (Silver Banana)
Disco House rules.  I also happen to be on a huge Bond movie kick (literally just finished Thunderballs before this post, how sick is that underwater fight), so the title makes me happy.

Clockworks - Canblaster
Some Funky flavors from France, of all places.  Canblaster doesn't really stick to a genre, he just sticks to consistently killing it.

Original Hardcore (Bass Kleph Remix) - Moguai, Westbam (Silver Banana)
As I've been saying, Bass Kleph is a BEAST right now.  And here's another sick Tech House jam to add to his collection.  Jackin drums.

Take Me Over (Mylo Remix) - Cut Copy
Some Nu Disco / Synth Pop flavors.  Gotta smile sometimes, no?

Miranda (Oliver Huntemann Remix) - Marc Romboy vs. Stephan Bodzin
If you're not into that smiling shit though, you can always cop some intense, brooding Minimal Techno.

Shake it (Original Mix) - Ben Delay & Till West
House that samples old 20s swing.  Baller.

Shuffling and Looking Dumb (Feat. Krystal) - BetaTraxx
Heavy but Fun Electro with some vocals.

Dynamite (Original Mix) - Alesso
Another BIG House track from this guy (he was the Golden Banana of yesterday's post), another Big Room House smasher that is getting played out by the Swedes.

Turn Up The Music (Original Mix) - Audio Jacker
And some more Disco flavors to end with this House track.

Ugh... fucking Barcelona...

On My Own (Burns ESM Remix) - Yasmin (GOLDEN BANANA)
Organ House is the bomb.  This one's got some Dutch flavor in it, but it's House to the core.  Also, SUPERB vocal chopping.

Original Challenge (Original Mix) - Umek & Tomy DeClerque (Silver Banana)
This one's doing pretty well on the Beatport charts.  Techy track with an Italo Disco feel to it.  Planning on dropping this next gig.

Rave O Bitch Up (Tristan Garner Bootleg) - David Tort Vs Prodigy VS Max Vangeli & An21 (Silver Banana)
It's surprising how many big DJs drop bootlegs in their sets.  I'm definitely planning on dropping this one though.

Till The Light Comes - Solila
Some Nu Disco for you classy folk.

Blockhead (Hey Today! Remix) - Punks Jump Up
Electro Techno?  I think I mislabeled this one in my iTunes, but oh well.  Hey Today! have been murdering every remix they do.

On the Loose (Original Mix) - Christian Cambas
Techno rules.  I just hope that the blog world will open up to this style of Minimal Techno now that a lot of the former Electro guys are getting techier.

Call My Name feat. Nadia Ali (Spencer & Hill Remix) - Sultan, Ned Shepard, Nadia Ali
Electrogressive?  Pretty track with an edge.  Top notch as you should expect from these guys.

Sun Splash - Outart
Some more relaxed Techno, much more groovy/tribal.  Definitely perfect for the right setting, but I wouldn't drop this at a college.  Definitely would for a bar or something.

Rude Boy (Union Vocal Version) - Zeds Dead & Omar Linx
Dubstep --> Drum & Bass.  Great for sets that want to transition from those genres.

One More Time (Daft Punk & Stardust Rework) - Arno Cost
Great bootleg, on the proggy side.  Excellent to play some Big Room style and have everyone sing along / cheer.

Art Students

Just got back home from Providence where I went to the RISD graduation.  Congrats big sis.  Here are some Tech tracks for those creative types.

Fuego - Oliver Huntemann, Dubfire (Golden Banana)
Heard Simian Mobile Disco drop this.  Epic.

Aspic (Original Mix) - Simian Mobile Disco
Speaking of that show...

Push it (Squeeze It Up) (David Tort Remix) - Richie Santana DJ Chus
Ravey as hell, love it

2nd To None (Spektre's Respekt Remix) - Umek
You should know what to expect from these guys by now

2nd To None (Original Remix) - Umek
And the original

Coriander (Hardwell & R3hab Remix) - Rene Amesz
Sick flute sample

Please Release Me (Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Vulcanic Mix) - Nino Anthony & Mr. Eyes
Crazy ass build

1998 (Dabruck & Klein Remix) - Binary Finary
Proggy build, Techy drop

Who Knows (Original Mix) - Spencer & Hill
You can hear their style in this one, just minus the Electro

Art Students Zipped

P.S.  This post is dedicated to Dirty Dumbo, everyone's favorite Deadmau5 and Techno h8er.  That said, he's a pretty dope Los Angeles based DJ that you guys should check out, you'll be seeing his new mix up here pretty soon along with one from Ramses and Yea Mann.

Film Majors

You know who you are.  Don't pretend like you're making any contributions at all and good luck trying to say anything that hasn't already been said a million times already.

Now House music, that's an original medium.  Especially Progressive House, totally not the same bitch with a thousand faces.  Here are some Prog House tunes that sound like nothing you've never heard before.  Promise.

-M

To start, let's do this incredible EP:

In The Red Light (Original Mix) - CJ Stone And Chriss Ortega Feat Lyck (Golden Banana)
Wow.  Unbelievable.  The drop is just incredible, what a fucking sound they made.  Also the vocal chopping, simple but perfect.

In The Red Light (Stone And Ortega Club Mix) - CJ Stone And Chriss Ortega Feat Lyck
Techy remix while keeping the super cheesy Prog buildup.

In The Red Light (Red Light Mix) - CJ Stone And Chriss Ortega Feat Lyck
More traditional Prog sound, very much like an EDX song.

Now for some more totally unique and original Prog songs:

Major Tom (Coming Home) (Adam K & Soha Club Edit) - Shiny Toy Guns (GOLDEN BANANA)
This has become one of my absolutely favorite remixes from this already very established team.  On loop for weeks.  Oddly fast tempo, does that make this Trance...?  Regardless, it's hard to get more beautiful than this track.

My Belief (Jean Elan Remix) - Syke N Sugarstarr & DBN Feat Cosmo Klein
Really sick bass and drums on this one, sort of Able Ramos like but more interesting.  Hate the vocals though, but what can you do.  I just thank God that this is the only Prog song with terrible vocals.

Sometimes (Johan Wedel Remix) - Dim Chris, Amanda Wilson
I just hear this one exploding on a massive sound system, this bass is meant to be felt just as much as it's meant to be heard.  In other words, MASSIVE TUNE.

Shine A Light (David Tort Remix) - Kurd Maverick
More on the Techy side, a lot like Swedish Tech Prog.  The most Proggy track from David Tort I've heard actually.  And the chords, so original!  Never heard these changes before, it's incredible.

Some People Will Never Learn (Original Mix) - Dinka
A track from the hero of Swehouse.  This is one of those Prog tracks that takes me to my mental beach place.  I'm surfing, gliding my fingertips along the face of the wave.  A bombshell in a red bikini smiles at me as a gentle breeze rustles her golden hair.  She climbs onto my board and we ride tandem into the eternal sunset.  There are hi fives and thumbs ups all around.  It's pretty fuckin sick, you should totally check it out sometime.

David Tort

David Tort
is a Tech House DJ/producer from Spain that's really developed a distinguished sound. Unfortunately, as with most guys that push a certain style, their songs begin to sound the same, but that doesn't stop these tracks from being absolute bombs for your rave sets. Enjoy:

-M

Dont Let Me Down (David Tort Mix) - Eddie Thoneick Feat. Michael Feiner

I put this up a while back before I had any idea who Tort was, and it actually became the most downloaded song from this blog. It is a FANTASTIC Tech House track, but I don't see why this one, seems somewhat random.

No Turning Back (David Tort The Mansion Remix) - Gui Boratto

Great choice of remixer for this track. I guess there's a Spanish Tech scene that I should check out more, since I love Gui Boratto as well and I'm pretty sure they're both Spanish.

Losing My Mind (David Tort Remix) - Cevin Fisher & Paul Harris

Signature David Tort sound, this track is one of his newest and it kills. This definitely has it's electro moments too.

And don't worry, the collection is only 8 tracks this time, I don't have that much.

Eclectic House

There's nothing really unifying about this post except that all these songs would fall under house, so I'm calling this the Eclectic House post. Enjoy these tunes, all are highly recommended:

Don't Let Me Down (David Tort Remix) - Eddie Thoneick Feat. Michael Feiner
This is an awesome minimal/tech house track that would destroy any crowd. I have a few more David Tort tracks that are good, but not as good as this, so let me know if you're interested and I'll get them to you.

Love You Baby (Dabruck & Klein Vocal Mix) - Out Of Office
Massive electro house. Going to do some more looking into Dabruck & Klein for sure.

Gum Attack - Djedjotronic
Incredible. Dancey and housey as hell. Reminds me of Shadow Dancer. The best part about this song is that after the intro, I'm pretty sure he never repeats himself exactly, or at least I can't tell if he does. Attention to detail and variation. Bravo.

Robot Replica - Jeff Mills
NOT A DANCE TRACK. I'm actually rather perplexed as to what I'd call this. I guess this is techno? Whatever it is, it's a very fun and interesting listen.

The Sound Of The Big Babou - Laurent Garnier
I really like this track a lot. Really great choice of sounds.
