French House Arrest Episode VIII: Music Sounds Better With Roulé

Finally, we have moved on to 1998. While I still stand by my saying that the year previous was the most important/awesome year for French House, this year saw the release of THE French House track as well as more releases from the undeniable master of the genre. Also came the first release of one of my favorite french house acts.

-M

This is it. This is French House. This is the giant mega-hit that the genre produced. Eveyrone knows this song and can very easily sing along to it (its not like the lyrics are that difficult anyways). Stardust was born when Thomas Bangalter, Alan Braxe, and singer Benjamin Diamond were playing live together in the famous Rex Club in Paris. While Bangalter and Braxe looped a very short sample from Fate - Chaka Khan and turned it into a House groove, Diamond instinctively sung these infamous lyrics, and the track was born. It was clearly fate. And now for some remixes of the track you won't find on its official remix album:

Music Sounds Better With You (Dimitri From Paris Remix) - Stardust
Of all the tracks in this post, this is my favorite to play live. It's all about the second drop.

Music Sounds Better With You (Bob Sinclar Remix) - Stardust
Has the cooler, more lounge-y French sound.

His second batch of original tracks for his label. Contains the colossal track, appropriately named Colossus. God is Thomas Bangalter.

The first release from French House superstars The Buffalo Bunch. Possibly my favorite French House group, but its terribly difficult to make a certain call on that. Although this is certainly not my favorite release of theirs, it's their first and happened to fall in the year 1998. For ALL OF THEIR TRACKS, check out our previous post on them HERE.

Everyone should check out the blog Boards Of Electronica. They have so many awesome releases that you pretty much will not find anywhere else, except the few I've re posted in some of these episodes. Use the tags on the right side to help find what you're interested in.

Modjo

Here's some great throwback tracks for yall. Modjo is a French House duo composed of producer Romain Tranchart and singer Yann Destagnol. These guys are just fucking classic. I wish I had more of their stuff, but its pretty hard to find.

Chillin' - Modjo
Really digging this track at the moment. Fantastic sample. This is a shining example of what French House is. Grab a great remix by The Buffalo Bunch that we posted HERE.

Lady - Modjo
You have heard this song before. It was released in 2000 and was on the top charts for many countries, even reached #1 in the UK. French House rules.

Lady (Tom Reason Remix) - Modjo
I've posted this before, but I've been coming back to this sucker again and again. Fantastic electro house rendition, highly recommended.

BIG UPDATE
Found their album, you can grab it HERE.

The Buffalo Bunch

The Buffalo Bunch is an awesome French House from the early 2000's duo composed of Raw Man and Play Paul. These guys are my favorite French House producers second to Daft Punk. Their music is incredibly fun, light-hearted, and have the best disco basslines. It's hard to be listening to these guys without a smile and a foot tap or a head nod. These guys know how to construct a house track.

Freakin' You (Buffalo Bunch Remix) - Jungle Brothers
"When I get to your place I wanna turn up the highs and turn up the bass." If you know the original, you'll be amazed.

"If I Ever Feel Better, I'll Go to the Disco" (Said The Buffalo Bunch) - Phoenix
Awesome disco track, and especially relevant with the big Phoenix buzz due to their new, awesome album. Grab it HERE.

Close Your Eyes (Buffalo Bunch / We In Music Remix) - Bebel Gilberto

Baby making music: latin style.

Chillin' Con Carne (Por Favor Mix by We in Music vs. The Buffalo Bunch) - Modjo
Classic French House sound. Great example of the genre.

Taking It To The Streets - The Buffalo Bunch
(Also known as T.I.T.T.S.)
God I love this sample What a fucking cool song. Cool like in the traditional sense of the word, not like the "oh look at my trendy ass leather jacket and moustache" way. You know who you are.

Music Box - The Buffalo Bunch

Buffalo Club - The Buffalo Bunch
Buffalo Beats - The Buffalo Bunch
The only release on Thomas Bangalter's label, Scratché. Like really, the label only released THIS vinyl.

We Don't Care (Buffalo Bunch Night Train Mix) - Audio Bullys
This track is not typical of their style at all. It's really hardcore and ravey.

Now That Love Has Gone (The Buffalo Bunch Cryin' in the Dark Mix) - We In Music
Really really really really really poppy. Like uber-pop.

Foxxy (The Buffalo Bunch Remix) - Cassius
This is the only track I have of theirs that I'm not crazy about. It might be because I'm crazy about the the original Cassius track, but I just feel like it doesn't stand up to their other work. Maybe you will feel differently.
