Wordsmith - Of Mics and Men

Wesleyan's very own rapper, Wordsmith, has made quite a name for himself, packing every venue he's every played on campus, and it's not just because of his backing band The Concert G's, which consists of many of the most talented musicians on campus.  People come to hear his words, and I've to be honest, I'm not a fan of rap (I like beats), but I am a fan of Wordsmith.  I'm proud to announce his brand new album, having taken 3 years to make, is finally out.  Gonna give a special shout out to Jared Paul, who produced, mixed, and mastered the whole thing.  That's what I'm, at heart, all about, and he's done a great job.  Hope you enjoy this, it's a really dark album with clear influence from Atmosphere.

My favorite track of the album, if you feel like sampling before grabbing the whole thing.

Ratatashups

Jared Paul is a hip-hop producer that goes to my school and does a lot of collaborations with WordSmith. These are the guys I opened for Brother Ali with. Well, I recently acquired a mashup album Mr. Paul made in which he mashes every song from Ratatat's Classics in order. It's fantastic. The mashups are the exact kind of mashups I enjoy and try to make, aka, the ones that really make sense and last longer than Girl Talk's ADD ones. He really spent the time to find raps that really worked over these songs, and I really recommend this album, its a great alternative to those incredible Ratatat Remix albums.

Also, if you're interested in his other productions, you should definitely go check out an interview he did with Are You Here To Confuse Me, which you can see HERE. AYHTCM also interviewed Bastille, so you can check that out HERE. And here's a fantastic collaboration between Wordsmith and Jared Paul.

Fucking beautiful. He samples a folk song to amazing effect. The chorus kills me every time.

Brother Ali Interview

Remember how I opened for Brother Ali a while back? Well, our friend Mike Rosen at AYHTCM, the one who interviewed Bastille a while back (LINK) put up a review of the show, which you can check out HERE. Also, if you're interested, he interviewed a good friend of mine Wordsmith along with his producer which you can check out HERE and I highly recommend that you do because the track at the end of the post is fucking brilliant.
