Brostep

This post is for Vickers. He loves this music deeply and is currently hanging with the dudes in the picture. Look at those studs! (Pun intended)

"Brostep" is a sub-genre of Dubstep. What differentiates Brostep from classic Dubstep is the focus on mid and high-range frequencies rather than classic low bass notes. Another observed trait of Brostep is that it is usually "harder" than Dubstep, sometimes too hard. The following six examples are NOT too hard, but are awesome. Brostep, it's what for dinner.

While I don't necessarily agree with Skrillex's personal method of performance, I love his music. He makes the thumpinest fucking brostep ever, truthfully. This song is no exception.

This is technically Drumstep (let's not get into that) but it certainly fills the "bro" part of this post. This guy Crizzly has eleven songs on his Soundcloud. Six are real good, three are GREAT, this one's my favorite. This guy is definitely worth a look.

Heard this first in the Magnetic Man essential mix. Really excellent bass synth on the drop. I know that's not descriptive but it's the melody more than anything. This is a great production.

Super roboty synth with, like, THE best most misogynistic vocal drop ever. Love this song. Play this at college and get that look from all the...well...hos.

Another awesome melody. Fun vocal drop plus sick bass drop equals totally playable choon.

Enjoy!
-Danl

PS: That's how I'ma rate things that aren't bananas of some kind, whether I would play them live or not. I would, and do, play all of these songs out.

PPS: I made a little Disney mashup for r/dubstep and they liked it so much I decided to share it with y'all. Enjoy!

Yes, that song.

Baller.

Feromonikon - Siriusmo (GOLDEN BANANA)
Few people are this good at making music.

We Can Have It All (Sigma Remix) - Danny Byrd
Pretty while also heavy DnB with that uplifting style of vocal sampling.

Yeah Yeah Yeah (Nari & Milani Remix) - Spencer & Hill
SO RAVEY.  It's kind of Dutchy, but without the tired beeeeeoooohheebebebeohp.  Their hook is much cooler.

Powertool - Emalkay
Heavy while not over maximal Dubstep, just the right amount of treble.

Intro (Bart B More Edit) - Alan Braxe, Fred Falke (Silver Banana)
Great update of one of the BEST dance tracks of all time.  French House FTW.

Fly By Night (Cyberpunkers Remix) - Cerebral Vortex
These guys are kind of like the new Bloody Beetroots.  They just need to branch out a bit, try using some different sounds, but they make a banger for sure.

Move (Original Mix) - Muffler
Heavy, full dubstep.  The kinds that blows speakers.

Gilles (Original Mix) - Bart B More
Dutchy flavors, but unique.

Wobble (Original Mix) - Albin Myers
Progressive bulid, Electro drop.  Take a guess what the bass sounds like.

A Single Moment Of Sincerity (Bare Remix) - Asking Alexandria
Dubstep remix of Heavy Metal.  If you're sick of super heavy Dubstep, not for you.

Shadow Dancer - Murder Room

Exciting recent release from BNR.  This new rise in Techno has really pushed BNR into the limelight.  Even Ed Banger is looking to make a glorious return with an exciting Techno compilation (check it out HERE).  Anyways, here's this sick release.  Expect another post for tonight.

Death Race (2?)

Cinematic art, no?  I believe the director is a true auteur.  Kind of like how Eric Prydz is an autuer.  Let's celebrate one of the greatest producers with a semi-dedicated post.

-M

Niton (Club Mix) - Eric Prydz (Golden Banana)
So epic, and I'm such a sucker for this vocal track.  Yes, they're cheeeeeeeez, but I can't help but love it.

Niton (Original Mix) - Pryda
Basically the Pryda remix.  Everything that makes the above track Eric Prydz, this is Pryda, especially in length.

Illusions (Original Mix) - Pryda (Golden Banana)
The super epic Progressive House that only Pryda can make.  He's two steps ahead of the scene at all times.

The End (Original Mix) - Pryda (Silver Banana)
More incredibly epic Progressive House.  This one's a bit more relaxed.

Glimma (Original Mix) - Pryda
Great bass sounnd

Vega (Original Mix) - Pryda
The prettiest in the bunch, also somewhat relaxed.  It's all about how he gives and takes away, sort of makes him like God.

Now for non Prydz tracks:

Stars On 45 (Olav Basoski Remix) - Stars On 45 (GOOOOOLDEN BANANA)
This has got to be the top Disco House jam out right now.  It's like a bigger room version of Barabara Streisand.  EVERYONE PLAY THIS!

Lose Control (Johan Wedel Remix) - Deniz Koyu (Silver Banana)
This sounds like a John Dahlback track with how he treats the vocals.  It's like a progressive Bangkok.

Can't Sleep (Kill Paris's Dubstep Remix) - Above And Beyond
Dubstep remix of Trance.  I'm surprised that this doesn't happen more often, close tempo.  The drop is heavy though, not relaxed.

Also, I forgot to add AwB artwork, so if you want to prove to me telepathically that you're the biggest apes fan out there, you'll add it yourself.  Nerd.

Drum & Bass VS Dubstep

This post shall be divided into two. Which genre shall prevail?  YOU DECIDE

Also, I'd like to put a request out to any readers I still have. Due to the fact that I've taken about 2 months off to live and breath Futbol (FC Schalke 04, fuckin take that German cup), I'd like to ask if anyone out there has some tracks from the recent months that I should check out, post the names/artists in the comments.

-M

Here's a great EP that came out recently by Camo & Krooked, some of the more celebrated DnB producers right now.  It's got facemelters, super subby tracks, and prettier tracks.  DnB FTW!

Pulse Of Time EP - Camo & Krooked

Dubstep time

Brain - Ajapai (Golden Banana)
If your looking for a track that will me you feel like the world is coming to an end, look no further.

Piano Tune - Bar9
Calm, relaxing sample, then waaaaaaaahwahhhawahahwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyaaaaayyayayabuuuuuuuhbrghragiulfugldasfasdh

Bring It Back - Bare
More facemelting

Run Train - Hulk
I mean, if you don't get excited or at least curious as hell by the concept of a Dubstep remix of Ozzy's Crazy Train, then you don't belong here.

Slackin

So I've been slackin pretty hardcore. Sorry. It was nice to take this winter break though. Been doing mucho music work. But I'm heading back to school soon, and posts will pick back up. We also have a new writer. Essiting I know. Wanna know what's even more essiting?

+10,000 Bastille Love and Admiration Points for whoever can name the string sample in this Moby track. If you look it up and post it, you're just a douche, and nobody wants you here. But if you know it, you've hit the jackpot, or my jackpot. And that's all that matters.

BMore and a new contributor

Ah Baltimore, the home of so many awesome things: club music, drugs, violence, this guy right here. Know his name? I'm sure you do. Gimme dat name and get a whopping +5 Bastille Love and Admiration Points (it's my first post so I'll keep it small).

Baltimore Club Music, or BMore, is a style of club music based HEAVILY in sampling and formulaic drum patterns. The beat relies on a booming kick that's somewhere between four on the floor and Dutch house style. The kick is assisted by a big reverb'd (spelling?) clap and some classic BMore samples, known as the "chirp" and the "woo!...ey!", I'm not even making that up. The genre is dominated by a few heavy hitters but is flooded by hundreds of different djs remaking the same song with those Lil Jon "WHAT?!" and "OKAY!!!" samples. Here's a small sampling to whet your taste buds, expect a little artist spotlight soon. These are all a banana of some kind.

You may not know this song by name, but you will know it by the sample. Better lube up those ear pussies, this post is just getting started.

A Classic BMore track that has all the aforementioned components. This song is particularly popular IN Baltimore for the "Hands Up, Thumbs Down" sample famous to classic BMore.

I don't particularly like "Fuck You" as a track but the addition of the BMore beat and some key claps make this song an INSTANT college panty dropper. All dem college bitches love dis shit. Yeeeeee, muffins.

I...ahem...also make a little BMore with my dj partner/hetero life mate Ian. We call ourselves gLAdiator, more on that later.

Another friend of the blog, Dirty Dumbo, puts a little BMore flair on a classic 90's hip hop track. Again, college panty dropper. Any time you can get the crowd to say anything it's a winner.

Okay, so you got through my first post. Not terrible, right? Sick. So my name is Danl and I'm part of the dj duo gLAdiator who you may have seen featured on this very site! The Bastille boys (Jumpman as well) have been nice enough to invite me to post on the blog. I'm a big Dub head with an interest in groovin' beats, things that stray away from the standard 4/4 (eg BMore). Look for more posts in the near future!

OMG A WELSHMAN!

Doc Daneeka (aka Mial Watkins) is a Welsh Funky producer who has recently set ups his own label called Ten Thousand Yen, hes really into the more dense percussion heavy tunes with those punchy basslines, really high quality stuff, he finds good samples, and it just has a good depth to it to, the drums is crazy, and he gets props for putting a ton of material out in like just the past year or so. Get on this,
~Jumpman

(PS HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE, first post of 2011, we at apes with barrels spent our new years night raving to wolfgang gartner, jack beats, and dada life at TAO in LA, hope you had an epic night wherever you were as well.)
