Deadboy

Amazingly soulful, deep, melting synths, washed with burial-esque garage/rnb vocals, swinging drums, dark vibes. Longing tracks, late night business. watch out for this guy, amazing london DJ/Producer, calls himself Deadboy. Check out his mix for xlr8r magazine while your at it, thoughtprovoking stuff. Here are his original productions, make sure to grab these and enjoy.

Joe (EDIT)

British label Hessle Audio, run by Funkystyled Dubstep producers Ramadanman & Pangaea and Forwardthinking DJonly Ben UFO, has been a veritable funky minimal gloopy dubstep thinktank always bringing a fresh sound. Their latest release was by Joe, who has released on the label before, his brand of funky brings a very minimal, percussive, latin, maybe even favelaflavored sound, backed by fantasticly low subs, reminiscent of very early oizo think stuff off "#1" Here are his two EPs, enjoyyyyy!

Girl Unit

Hmm, i feel like we need some more Funky, so here's some stuff by London DJ/Producer Girl Unit, one of the most exciting producers on the scene, with amazing deep hardcore sounds and a pitchshifting use of the drums, almost like talking drums, every so often breaking into half step. Bass music with tribal drums grime soundpallete and deep unstable organic synths, good stuff. This is his debut EP entitled I.R.L. out on the brilliant new label Night Slugs, which is run by Bok Bok & L-Vis. Make sure to grab this and enjoy, his remix for Marcus Price & Karli is insane.

EEDEESEE

I feel like I either defeat EDC, or am defeated by it.  This year was probably the latter.  Not that it wasn't awesome, just damn was it a night.  Here's our review for the 2010 Electric Daisy Carnival.

-M

BEST

Wolfgang Gartner

I mean, he's the second fucking coming of christ.  And he played Yin.  Also heard what most certainly were unreleased tracks that sounded sick as fuck.  Man's really the best.

Boys Noize

This will be the 4th time I've seen this dude.  Hopefully you've all already had the pleasure as well.  His stage presence is always top notch.  But if that's not enough, check out the first 3 songs in his setlist:

Kontact Me (Rynecologist Turbine Remix) - Boys Noize
Lyposuct (Original) - D.I.M. & TAI
Yeah, Techno! (Soulwax Mix) - Paul Chambers

Felix Cartal

J liked his set more than Boys Noize, and it was definitely a competitor.  Boys Noize had the advantage of bigger stage, better lights, headlining slot, and well, just being Boys Noize.  That said, Felix managed to get his daytime crowd jumping, and was dropping some awesome fucking tracks.  He also just looked dope on stage.  He's come a long way since I first saw him for free at Vassar.

Beyond God To Elvis (Felix Cartal Remix) - From Monument To Masses
THIS MACHINE DON'T GIVE A SHIT

GOOD

Fedde Le Grand

Caught the end of his set before Boys Noize.  Good stuff, not as stand out as the above stuff, but definitely enjoyable.  Some songs were too minimal and just got boring and you could see it in the crowd, but he's redeem himself with the next song.  He played this Hardwell bootleg that I'm not too crazy about, but I love the song underneath it:

Laidback Luke

I'm sure he would have been in the best list, but we couldn't get onto the floor for the main stage.  We saw the end of his set from the stands where the sound was really shitty.  Then he dropped some Dubstep and Drum & Bass.  Hearing that at the Main Stage at EDC was nice.

Groove Armada

We didn't catch much of their set either, but it sounded dope.  We were just pretty tired then and their stuff was sort of trancier than we needed to get us hyped.  But I'll put em here.

WORST

Duck Sauce

This was such a disappointment to me.  When we got there, it just wasn't going over well.  I heard them drop one of their originals called Grand Steppin which is like the homage to Daft Punk's Homework, and the crowd was not having it really.  Don't get me wrong, I fucking love it, but it wasn't what I wanted to hear at a rave.  As we were leaving to catch Fedde, they dropped a dope House track, so maybe it was just the tiny amount of time we were there, but we weren't willing to wait around for it to get better.

Will.I.Am

Since when is playing a pop song, stopping it to say things, and then playing another pop song considered DJing?  We only saw him because we wanted to get into the main stage to see Laidback Luke, but it was impossible.  Hearing songs like Thriller mixed in is awesome, but when you're just playing these types of songs to be a crowd pleaser, you're a bitch, especially when you're not even mixing them.  Fuck you, Will.I.Am, I got a feeling you should stick to the studio.

Yuksek

Those of you new to the game probably don't know this dude, but he was fuckin killing it from way back around 2007 (so long ago, I know).  I thought I'd honor his name with a tribute post, hopefully bring it back.  Can't wait to hear new shit from him.  Yuksek Lives!

-M

Ugodzilla (Yuksek Remix) - U-God (Golden Banana)
The shit, coolest drop, everyone go nuts WOOOOO!

Hands of a Stranger (Yuksek Remix) - Teenage Bad Girl

Farewell To The Fairground (Yuksek Remix) - White Lies
He's the master of vocoder.

Kids Who Watch MTV

I don't think there's anything worse than MTV.  These kids, they love MTV.  Here's some Progressive House to get your mind off that garbage.

-M

First up, Teenage Crime! The Axwell + Henrik B Remode is my favorite, but they're all pretty top notch.  I mean, when Axwell does 3 remixes of your song, that's a pretty big deal.

Teenage Crime (Original Mix) - Adrian Lux

Teenage Crime (Axwell & Henrik B Remode) - Adrian Lux (Golden Banana)
One Epic bulidup, I hope this gets dropped at EDC.

Teenage Crime (Axwell Remix) - Adrian Lux

Teenage Crime (Axwell Copenhagen Mix) - Adrian Lux

And now for the rest:

Spaceship (EDX Remix) - Benny Benassi feat. Kelis & APL & Jean-Baptiste
Standard EDX, which pretty much means excellence.

Don't Lie (Sebastien Drums & Rob Adans Remix) - Jerry Ropero & Tom Novy feat. Abigail Bailey
Awesome.

Unleash My Love (Original Mix) - John De Sohn & Nick Wall feat. Christina Skaar
Don't know these guys but love the track.

Surfers

Yeah, we're the shit.  If I could surf to Electro, goddam I would.  That would be so sick.

Sabotage (Alex Metric Re-Edit) - Beastie Boys
Great opener, hip hop tempo.

Kites (Dada Life Remix) - Gravitonas
Do they ever dissapoint?

Bootsoul Nugget - Lee Mortimer vs M&S
Fun Fidget House, really like this one.

Nothing On You (Villains Remix) - B.O.B. ft. Bruno Mars
Not a banger by any means, but could work for club/college really well.

Love Dealer (Chew Fu Extended Mix) - Esmee Denters Feat. Justin Timberlake
Should know what to expect.

Can't Shake This Feeling (Dcup Remix) - Grum
Pure Disco.

Obsessions (Monsieur Adi Remix) - Marina and the Diamonds
Beautiful.

Kontact Me (Rynecologist Turbine Remix) - Boys Noize
Cool remix, I enjoyed this one.

AZN Bran

We have a lot to thank the Asians for.  And by a lot I mean video games.  Here's a post of random stuff:

-M

Born Free (12th Planet Remix) - M.I.A. (Golden Banana)
Blast this from your car with the windows down and stare down the person next to you.  That's called rollin' deep.

How Deep Is Your Love - Keith Sweat
Old school R&B jam.  It's literally like sex coming from the speakers.  Tony, if you still read this, this song is for you.

Pick Up The Party - DJ Agent 86
Breakbeat, Funk, and Rap come together in the best way possible.  Highly recommend this jam.  +10 Bastille Love and Admiration points to whoever names the song and artist sampled for the beat of this one.

It Kills Me (Breakage Remix) - Melanie Fiona
Some UK Garage, this one's for you Jumpman.  Also, Breakage is killing it, everyone look out for this dude.

Freaks (Bird Peterson Remix) - Wale
Nice beat, glad to see new stuff from this guy.  If you remember, we interviewed him a while back, check it HERE.

Coco Drunk (Douster Remix) - Poirier
Not really my style, but I know lots of you get into this shit.  Bass heavy.

Los Angeles Stand Up

Got some special shit from some local Los Angeles up and comers for y'all.  Let's go Celtics!  Rondo's a beast, tearing shit up.

This is a picture of Ramses and DirtyDumbo.  They're good people.

And this lovely fellow with the twinkle in his eyes is Yea Mannn.  Also, man on the top right is Mr. Ramses unmasked.  I've got some stellar mixes for your listening pleasure.

-M

New Promo Mix - Ramses & Yea Mannn
Shit's bomb.  Great tracks, smooth trannys, sounds super pro.  I'm pretty sure together they go as gLAdiator, but I'll let them correct me in the comments since the mix I got just has Ramses as the artist anyways.  (Turns out they are)

The New Style - DirtyDumbo

The New Style by DirtyDumbo

This mix is a serious accomplishment.  Some serious skill happening here, I can only imagine how many tries this took to get perfect.  If I'm not mistaken he took advantage of Traktor's ability to mix 4 decks to make this.  Braver man than me.  He's also the infamous creator of THIS FACEBOOK GROUP.  Chances are if you read this blog that you disagree, let him know.  I do every time I see his ass.

*Check the track lists in the comments

Be sure to hit these fools up and let em know what you think of their mixes, they'll appreciate the feedback.  Also look out for them at Gotta Dance Dirty's weekly event at the Avalon, that is, Control on Friday nights, and if you see them tell them you saw em on Apes and I'm sure they'll give you a welcome hug.  This week Control's got AC Slater, Vandalism, and Rico Tubbs lined up.  But if you'd rather stalk me, you'll find me at The Glitch Mob at The Music Box.  What up LA.

BONUS:
Gifted (Ramses Extended Mix) - N.A.S.A. feat. Kanye West & Santogold
Back when Santigold was spelled with an o.  Some Dutch house with Electro flavor.  Give your crowd something to sing along too while they bounce around.

The Sound of Silence (Yea Mannn Remix) - Simon & Garfunkel
The audacity to throw true artists over pounding Electro synths... I'll tell ya, these kids these days got no respect.  Works though.

Film Majors

You know who you are.  Don't pretend like you're making any contributions at all and good luck trying to say anything that hasn't already been said a million times already.

Now House music, that's an original medium.  Especially Progressive House, totally not the same bitch with a thousand faces.  Here are some Prog House tunes that sound like nothing you've never heard before.  Promise.

-M

To start, let's do this incredible EP:

In The Red Light (Original Mix) - CJ Stone And Chriss Ortega Feat Lyck (Golden Banana)
Wow.  Unbelievable.  The drop is just incredible, what a fucking sound they made.  Also the vocal chopping, simple but perfect.

In The Red Light (Stone And Ortega Club Mix) - CJ Stone And Chriss Ortega Feat Lyck
Techy remix while keeping the super cheesy Prog buildup.

In The Red Light (Red Light Mix) - CJ Stone And Chriss Ortega Feat Lyck
More traditional Prog sound, very much like an EDX song.

Now for some more totally unique and original Prog songs:

Major Tom (Coming Home) (Adam K & Soha Club Edit) - Shiny Toy Guns (GOLDEN BANANA)
This has become one of my absolutely favorite remixes from this already very established team.  On loop for weeks.  Oddly fast tempo, does that make this Trance...?  Regardless, it's hard to get more beautiful than this track.

My Belief (Jean Elan Remix) - Syke N Sugarstarr & DBN Feat Cosmo Klein
Really sick bass and drums on this one, sort of Able Ramos like but more interesting.  Hate the vocals though, but what can you do.  I just thank God that this is the only Prog song with terrible vocals.

Sometimes (Johan Wedel Remix) - Dim Chris, Amanda Wilson
I just hear this one exploding on a massive sound system, this bass is meant to be felt just as much as it's meant to be heard.  In other words, MASSIVE TUNE.

Shine A Light (David Tort Remix) - Kurd Maverick
More on the Techy side, a lot like Swedish Tech Prog.  The most Proggy track from David Tort I've heard actually.  And the chords, so original!  Never heard these changes before, it's incredible.

Some People Will Never Learn (Original Mix) - Dinka
A track from the hero of Swehouse.  This is one of those Prog tracks that takes me to my mental beach place.  I'm surfing, gliding my fingertips along the face of the wave.  A bombshell in a red bikini smiles at me as a gentle breeze rustles her golden hair.  She climbs onto my board and we ride tandem into the eternal sunset.  There are hi fives and thumbs ups all around.  It's pretty fuckin sick, you should totally check it out sometime.

Vote Or Die

So there's a competition right now where you can vote for your favorite American DJ.  Big list, pick 5 sorta thing.  Last year Z Trip won.  You can check out more info about the whole thing HERE as well as check to see if the tour is stopping anywhere near you.

Of course you're entitled to your own opinion, but I voted for the following:

Armand Van Helden - because he's a legend, a hero of Daft Punk is a hero of mine
A-Trak - godly on the ones and twos.
Mark Farina - see him and you'll understand
The Martinez Bros - same goes for these guys
Wolfgang Gartner - I mean, the second fucking coming

Honorable mentions to Bassnectar, Cut Chemist, DJ Shadow, Francois K (for DJing a station in GTA IV), Kaskade, Mixmaster Mike, Moby, and finally, ?uestlove.

There's a giant list with tons to pick from, 100 exactly, I'd be interested to hear who you guys pick and why.  Unless of course you vote for Steve Aoki.  If that's you, I'd like to first redirect you HERE, and then I'll show you my foot in your ass.

-M

I can't leave you with nothing, so hears a new Popof EP:

Blow Me Down / Circle Monkey EP - Popof
Very new sound for him, more Tribal/Funky Housey but still very much Tech.  Sample based rather than his typical blipy synth sounds.
